“The Rainbow” is an animated short made by me for the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) showcase in 2023. The short was an ambitious project I tackled to bring awareness to the acronym LGBTQ+. Originally the project began as research into Sex and Sexuality Ed, as I missed out on classes in school to catch up to my classmates in reading and writing. My research from Sex and Sexuality Ed then led me to create an animated trailer for a TV show called “Spring Teachings with Bird and Bee.” Depicting these characters teaching young teens and adults about my research topic. It then evolved into me creating an episode idea for the show called “The Rainbow.” I utilised a lot of mixed media to create this episode and originally planned for the animation to be paper stop-motion. Sadly, I was on a time restraint and had to replicate the animation digitally. This project taught me so much about animation, leading an animated project and Sex/Sexuality Ed. Many thanks to the voice actors Alex Shepperd and Mily Toulson. Alongside my classmates and tutors who support this project. I am glad I went through this project as it has made me a stronger artist. Materials utilised are scanned textures, cardboard cutouts and photography. Software: Procreate, Photoshop, Adobe Fresco, Illustrator, After Effects and Premier Pro.
